Default The Hunger Games

Anybody read this yet? I'm about halfway through it, and can't put it down. It is written in this odd tense, as if somebody is telling you the story informally... "I walk down the street and that's when I see it."

The story is set in a future North America where there's a central town and 12 surrounding districts. Every year there's a lottery and the surrounding districts have to give up a boy and a girl. All those people then have to fight to death in an arena. So far it is pretty fricking delicious. I'll let you know how it ends up.

I wish we had made the book club a success. I tried it at another gaming forum, and the same result; too few participants.

yeah I really liked it when we did that. Hell I'd love to do that across the board... movies, games, whatever.

I think our biggest problems are that 1.) I haven't done jack with content. 2.) Our numbers are either dwindling or busy.

If we can get a few people here, I could throw the idea around at COG and maybe do a co-op book club? I don't think the hard part was people reading the books, it was getting enough people to actually generate good discussion about them.

I don't know if you remember me mentioning the evil website Evil Avatar, the site you used to have a news feed to. The guy that ran it was basically stealing money, so all of the admins from that site left and started COG.

I'll put up a post later tonight or tomorrow to gauge interest. We've already got a Good Reads group up, so I suppose the only thing is to find interested people.

I tore through this book in only a day or two and enjoyed it. The end was a little sudden and strange, but is followed by the text: "END OF BOOK I."

Catching Fire is the name of the second book, and I excitedly looked for it on my iPhone kindle app only to be disappointed. I wonder if it will be available through the bookstore on the iPad?

The third book is available for pre-order, with no indication of a kindle version.

Curiously enough, I read this book sort of taking it at face value, and enjoying it -- but when I went to the bookstore recently I discovered I have basically read a book that is considered by many to be the next "Twilight" teen-chicky angst book. I admit that I'm glad I didn't know that in advance, as I fear it would have stopped me from considering it.
